Prayer Tips
If praying does not come easy for you, try these tips to make your prayer life more focused and effective.
1. Just Start Talking with God
Prayer is simply talking with God. The more you pray together the more you. feel the power. Soon the biblical promise will be real: “A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” (Ecc 4:12)
2. Make Time to Pray
Find a mutual time to establish your routine of praying 5 minutes a day…equal to the time for one cup of coffee. If you’re apart, pray on the phone or text. Consistency is very important.
3. Have an Attitude of Gratitude
Begin by thanking God for the blessings you received since yesterday’s prayers. Add thanks for your family, health, and opportunities. Be vulnerable. You’re talking with God. He knows everything about you anyway!
4. Confess Wrongdoings – Ask Forgiveness
Ask God to point out your problem areas. Fess up to your partner. Seeking forgiveness allows God to cut you free from the shackles of fear, resentfulness, insecurity, guilt, shame, and uncertainty. Don’t own it anymore. Give it to God. Let Him carry your baggage.
5. Pray Out Loud
The goal is to have a conversation with God among the three of you. To get started, perhaps only one of you will wish to speak. But as you become more comfortable, you’ll both want to share your concerns and requests. Praying is like an exercise…the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. And the more indispensable it is in your life.
6. Keep it Short
Prayers don’t need to be long-winded or flowery. If each person speaks for two or three minutes, that’s fine. You’ll develop your own rhythm and style, finding yourselves chatting with God at your own pace. He is a great listener.
